Who is the Fiesta Blogger?

I guess before we get started on this new venture it might be a good idea to introduce who the Fiesta Blogger is. My name is Randy Bear. I'm the Fiesta webmaster and have been providing this service to the Fiesta Commission for 10 years. I'm one of the 75,000 volunteers who help bring this monstrous party to San Antonio each year.

I have been a member of the Fiesta Commission for 16 years and was recently elected as one of the 21 Elected Commissioners of the Fiesta Commission. Spending time volunteering with the Fiesta Commission has always been a highlight for me. Coming to San Antonio 18 years ago I knew nothing of this party until a co-worker took me to NIOSA with others. I was instantly hooked on Fiesta after that night. Little did I realize how much more there was to Fiesta.

What draws me each year is the dedication and commitment of the volunteers. Each one has numerous stories to tell about their special Fiesta events. In the end we all join together enjoying the food, the fun, and the festivities of Fiesta. Viva Fiesta!

Street Chairs for Fiesta Parades Almost Ready

We're starting to load the information regarding street chairs for both the Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau parades. Ever since we built the Interactive Street Chair Locator people have used this tool to find street chairs along the parade routes. What they probably don't realize is how much their purchases do for the community of San Antonio.

You see those thousands of street chairs that line the parade routes are managed and sold by various non-profit organizations as a fundraiser. The organizations include Boy Scout troops, church youth groups, and many other small organizations that have become a part of the Fiesta community.

From January until the parades they take phone calls and orders for seats. Before the parades they arrive at the routes and set up the chairs in their respective sections. They serve as ushers during the parades and also provide information for those new to the Fiesta experience. After the parades they fold and stack the chairs, getting ready for next year's Fiesta fun.

I am always amazed at the dedication of these volunteers and enjoy seeing them each year as I wander down the route taking pictures of the parades. They are a part of what makes Fiesta so unique and fun.

Our first Fiesta blog

We've launched into a new era at the Fiesta Commission. For the first time in our online existance we decided to try a blog to post things happening in the Fiesta community in an informal manner.

As Fiesta gets closer you'll hear more about what's happening with Fiesta including information about events and all things about Fiesta.
