There's a Fiesta Parade for Everyone
Each year the big parades of Fiesta are broadcast live on one of the local TV channels in San Antonio. Even if you couldn't get tickets to enjoy them in person you could always tune in to watch the River Parade, the Battle of Flowers Parade and the Fiesta Flambeau parade. One year you could even watch the Flambeau parade over the Internet. Now the pooches have their day in the sun, or should I say over the airwaves. Texas Public Radio will be broadcasting live on Saturday, April 28th, at the Alamo Heights Swimming Pool the annual Fiesta Pooch Parade. David Martin Davies and Kathy Couser will anchor the parade broadcast from 8 to 9 a.m. with special interviews of parade participants and members of The Delta Society, the beneficiary and host of the parade.
I have always enjoyed stopping by the Pooch Parade on that last Saturday of Fiesta to take in the elaborate costumes worn by the pooches. It's a canine Fiesta fantasy complete with kings, queens and every other sort in between. What always amazes me is how you can pull hundreds of dogs together and not have one quarrel among them.
Even if you don't have a dog to parade with you can bring the kids for a fun family experience. For details check the Fiesta website. In case you wondered the dog in the picture at the site was always one of my favorites. When I first attended the parade he was ready to cheer the Spurs and came each year with a different look. Unfortunately he has passed on but his memory still lives during the parade.
